Teachers in Service (TIS) is undergoing a reconstruction to proactively and aspirationally recruit
teachers for missionary children’s schools. The core goals and strategies can be summarized as
follows:

I. Team Restructuring and Leadership:

  • TIS will be restructured with an Executive Director, 3-4 Directors (Teacher Recruitment,
Technology/Marketing, Education Payback), and several volunteers. Preference is for
    individuals from the MK community.

  • Recruitment for these leadership positions will utilize personal contacts, Mission Nexus,
Mission Next, and potentially social media and LinkedIn. Screening will focus on
alignment with the TIS vision and agenda

  • Directors will lead and oversee volunteers, acting as “foremen”; for the various initiatives.
They must be competent in the areas they oversee (e.g., Google Ads). Google Ads
competency is crucial, and training will be provided if needed.

    II. School Partnerships and Advertising:

  • TIS volunteers will collaborate with school staff to develop compelling teacher
recruitment ads and school overview pages for the TIS website. These pages will link to
the schools’ individual websites. This collaboration can occur remotely during staff home
    assignments.

  • Advertising will be conducted through Google AdWords (utilizing a $250K/year grant),
Mission Next, MissioNexus, and potentially social media. Ads will target specific groups
(college/university students, high school students, Korean teachers/students, children of
missionaries, and current/former/retired teachers). Each ad will direct potential teachers
to the school’s overview page on the TIS site.

  • Schools will use their own policies and procedures to process potential teacher
    applications.

III. Content Creation and Website Enhancement:

  • Schools will create digital audio-visual testimonies (e.g., via smartphones) for YouTube
and their own websites, to be used in teacher recruitment advertising.

  • TIS will assist schools in enhancing their websites to attract prospective teachers,
including metrics on existing teachers and vacancies.

  • TIS will review all website pages and videos.

    IV. Teacher Support and Orientation:

  • TIS will explore options for addressing the monthly college education payback for new
teachers, either through an existing organization or by creating a new funding
    mechanism.

  • TIS will develop an orientation program for new staff and volunteers, potentially including
    school visits.

  • Schools will develop their own new teacher orientation plans.

    V. Staff Cycling and Relationship Building:

  • TIS will implement a program for remotely cycling school staff in and out of TIS during
their home assignments. This will enhance TIS advertising efforts and allow staff to
share TIS resources with their schools. This is viewed as a mutually beneficial
    relationship-building process.

  • TIS will develop a program for face-to-face interaction between school staff and
    prospective teachers.

VI. Teacher Placement and Success Measurement:

  • TIS will investigate becoming a teacher-sending organization, working with the Executive
Director and exploring best practices with other organizations.

  • TIS will develop a method to measure recruitment success and adjust advertising
    strategies accordingly.

    VII. Volunteer Management:

  • Volunteers are considered crucial to TIS’ reconstruction. Leaders will recruit, train,
oversee, and perform quality assurance for volunteer work, especially in ad creation and
    social media/AdWords management.

    VIII. Collaboration and Communication:

  • TIS aims to create a MissioNexus group for communication and idea sharing with other
    MK teacher recruitment organizations.

    IX. Secure Area Considerations

  • Special care will be taken when recruiting teachers for schools in secure areas.

    X. Marketing and Information Gathering:

  • TIS will research online marketing techniques for teacher recruitment.

  • TIS will utilize Google’s nonprofit resources.

    XI. Additional Points:

  • The goal is to be proactive in addressing schools’ teacher needs.

  • TIS will explore the “journey” and “pathways”; of potential leaders to ensure a good fit.

  • Previous testimonies will be upgraded.

  • TIS will work with children of missionaries.

This synthesized version captures the key elements of the TIS reconstruction plan, emphasizing
the focus on team building, targeted advertising, strong school partnerships, and ongoing
    evaluation.
